Barkingside
The High Street of Barkingside has come a long way from the small 18th century hamlet noted for the Fairlop Fair.
Today Barkingside High Street is a lively centre stretching from Fullwell Cross in the north, home to the Grade II listed library designed by Sir Frederick Gibberd one of the most significant British Modernist designers of the late 20th Century, to Tanners Lane in the south, full of independent shops supermarkets and other popular chain stores.
Sainsbury and Tesco are situated to the south of the town’s high street. The Fullwell Cross Leisure Centre at the northern end of the high street offers swimming, gym and spa facilities and within easy walking distance is Fairlop Waters offering leisure facilities, restaurant and bar.
